The Bharathiar University was established at Coimbatore by the Government of Tamilnadu in February, 1982 under the provision of the Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act of 1982). The University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, Recognized the University in may 1985. For the purpose of grants. Bharathiar University is a member of the association of Indian Universities and Commonwealth Universities, hence, the Degree awarded are mutually recognized by each other. Bharathiar University is accredited with "A" Grade placed among the top ten University at the National level and by the NAAC and ranked second among non-professional Universities in Maruthamalai Hills in the Western Ghat range in a sprawling campus of 1000 acres of land, 15kms from the city of Coimbatore.
